R1.2b Kendal Platform Earthworks & Infrastructure
Between 2020 and 2024, Techno Survey Solutions provided comprehensive surveying and data management services for a flagship R1.2 billion infrastructure project in Kendal, Mpumalanga. This massive undertaking spanned four years and involved extensive civil engineering and earthworks components, requiring precision aerial surveying and continuous monitoring throughout the project lifecycle.
Our scope of work encompassed platform earthworks with complex layerworks, including the installation of liners and coarse filter sand. We supported the development of extensive gravel road networks featuring triple-layered construction, ensuring precise grading and alignment for optimal road performance. Critical water management systems included silt traps and concrete canals for both clean and dirty water, requiring accurate topographical mapping and ongoing progress tracking.
The project featured the construction of clean and dirty water dams with specialized concrete floors and Geocell-reinforced slopes. Our surveying services were essential for the accurate placement of sub-surface drainage and leachate drainage systems, ensuring proper water flow and environmental compliance. We also provided critical data for concrete spillways, overflows, and the massive bulk earthworks required for dam cut-and-fill operations, managing millions of cubic meters of earth movement with precision.
Throughout the four-year project, our team delivered high-resolution aerial imagery, 3D point clouds, and detailed topographical data that enabled engineers to make informed decisions, track progress accurately, and ensure quality control across all project phases. This comprehensive data management approach was instrumental in the successful completion of this billion-rand infrastructure development.
